Artist - N Raghavan
Raghavan, a multifaceted artist was born in Chennai in the year 1952. An alumnus of the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai, and Raghavan has received State Academy and National Academy awards. He has conducted solo shows and participated in group-shows along with other artists. These shows were held in Chennai, Mumbai, Sri Lanka, United States, Italy and Geneva. Apart from these, he has participated in several exhibitions and camps conducted across India.
Art direction is another dimension of Raghavan. He has Art Directed in Indian feature films, cultural festivals, festival of India, has been co-art director in International Cultural films, Television centers and Advertisement films. His works are cherished collections at National, International museums and with private art collectors.
This eminent artist was invited to conduct art classes and deliver lectures at Pennsylvania State University, Willow Academy of Art, Seattle and St.Peter's Cultural Art Centre, Missouri. Raghavan's works are predominantly copper relief on acrylic, digital painting and oil on canvas. While talking about the meditation series of copper relief on acrylic, he says, Meditation is the only truth, which cannot be shared. You can read many scriptures and meet many gurus, but when silence descends on you, it is your personal space, which cannot be shared! You become aware of this when you disappear and the whole universe is mirrored inside you!
When I meditate, I fathom the depths of the universe. I delve within my consciousness and travel great distances. These journeys are marked by significant sojourns where I see many images / scenes / happenings. The exhilarating experiences that I undergo during meditation enable me to give concrete forms of art. Each chisel is a conscious effort to create art in the terrestrial plane. The exhibits that you see are intuitive works from my experiences in the higher planes.
The omniscient expresses itself in the universe. It utilizes me as a channel to create such pieces of art. The omnipotent equips me to see, feel and give a form for the beauty to manifest…
True, each work depicts a human form engrossed in meditation. There is perfect symmetry and harmony. As Raghavan says, symmetry is an integral part of life. There has to be symmetry in everything, especially meditation. An intent gaze at the piece of art transports you into a world of ecstasy and tranquility...
