Artist - Jyoti Bhatt
Studied Painting at M. S. University under Prof. N. S Bendre, K.G. Subramanyan and Sankho Chaudhuri (1950 -1959); Academia Di Belle Arti, Naples- under Italian Government Scholarship (61-62), Fresco at Vanasthali Vidyapith (1953), Printmaking at Pratt Institute and Pratt Graphic Art Center, New York under Fulbright and JDR IIIrd Grants. (1964-66).
Paintings, Prints and Photographs are shown: in one-man shows, Group Shows, National and International exhibitions, and published in India and abroad. Have done mural paintings for the Parliament House (N. Delhi) and a number of Industrial and Educational institutions.
Prizes include: Two National Awards and President's Gold Plaque, Gold Medal at International Print Biennale, Italy; Grand-Prix at UNESCO Photo Contest, Japan, and a Top Prize at 'FOTOKINA', West Germany, and DAVID, India.
Works in public and personal collections including: NGMA, LKA, IGNCA, Craft Museum, Delhi Art Gallery & Art Heritage (New Delhi); MOMA, Smith Sonian Museum & Pratt Graphic Art Center, (USA); Uffizi Gallery, (Florence); Duesseldorf Art Museum, Germany and British Museum; Bharat Bhavan (Bhopal), Centre for Photography at NCPA, & Mrs. Pheroza Godrej (Mumbai); CIMA, Kolkata; and Uttarayan (Vadodara) ; Various Museums and Art organizations in India and abroad.
Have taught Painting at M.S. University of Baroda (1959 -1992).
Served as a Commissioner and a Member of Juries and Advisory Committees for National and International Art Exhibitions. Ravindra Bharati University, Kolkata awarded (2004) Hon. Doctorate- (D.Litt.). Received Special Honors from: Gujarat State Government, Gujarat LKA and AIFACS. Conducted few and participated in several art-seminars and artists' workshops. Written articles on arts, printmaking, photography and folk art traditions for various magazines and books.
